Hainan is located in the southern most part of China, across the Qiongzhou Straits from Guangdong. Hainan's tropical location guarantees warm weather year round. With 1,500km, (930 miles) of coastline and 300 days of sunshine per year, it is the perfect place for a beach holiday in China.
Most tourist developments are based around Sanya on the southern tip of the island, which has long white sandy beaches. palm trees and clear blue seas. Golf, watersports and scuba-diving are all available.
About 1/3 of Hainan's residents are from ethnic minorities. The Li people were among the early inhabitants of Hainan over 2,000 years ago and many live in traditional thatched villages in central Hainan.
There are international flights to Hainan from Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore as well as many Chinese cities. Hainan has a good road system and it is fairly easy to get around the island.
