Liuzhou is located on the Liu River in central Guangxi approximately 255km (160 miles) away from Nanning. It is the second largest city in Guangxi and the main industrial center. Lizhou has an area of 5,250 sq km and a population of approximately 1.5 million, which includes minorities such as the Zhuang, Han, Meng, Hui and Miao.
As with much of Guangxi, the landscape around Liuzhou is a mix of rolling hills, mountain peaks, caves and karst scenery.
Liuzhou is a crossroads of communications in southwest of China with four major railways linking the city to the whole of China.
