Kaifeng is located 72km (45 miles) away from the modern provincial capital Zhengzhou. Kaifeng is a historically rich and important city that dates back over 2,700 years. It served as the imperial capital, for 7 different dynasties between 364BC to 1233AD.
Kaifeng was especially important during the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127AD) and was referred to as the East Capital. Relics such as the Xianguo Monastery and the Iron Pagoda attest to the rich and long history of the city. |
