West Garden Temple
West Garden Temple is located across the road from the Garden to Linger In. Both were built by Xu Shitai during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The garden was donated to the Buddhist community who built a temple on these peaceful grounds. Visitors enter through grand gates leading to the Main Hall of the Buddha and the Hall of Celestial Guardians. Within these halls are painted clay sculptures of the four Heavenly Kings, 48 galleries containing 500 wood sculptures of Buddha’s disciples and a 1,000 armed wooden statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin.
