Precious Belt Bridge
Precious Belt Bridge is located 2.5 km (4 miles) southeast of Suzhou where the Grand Canal and Dantai Lake meet. It is a simple stone bridge with 53 arches and is popular with the local fishermen. Built in 816, it’s name derives from the generous act of a local governor who donated his jade belt to help with the building costs. The bridge is an interesting example of Tang dynasty (618-907AD) construction.
