Monument to the Crossing of the Yangzi River

Introduction

On April 23, 1949, the People’s Liberation Army crossed the Yangzi to capture Nanjing from Kuomintang control. On the 30th anniversary of this event, a monument was erected on the southern bank of the river, northwest of the city to commemorate the victory. The Chinese characters on the monument are in Deng Xiaoping’s handwriting.
