Harbin Ice and Snow Festival
Every year from early January to late February Harbin hosts a spectacular Ice and Snow Festival. The festival is mainly located in Zhaolin Park, which is filled with remarkable sculptures carved from ice. These can range from intricate carvings of human figures, birds, animals and mythical beasts to huge reproductions of famous buildings.
At night the sculptures are illuminated by multi-colored lights and the towering replica monuments, castles and pagodas line the snow-covered streets. Skating, sledding and other winter sports are popular during the festival and some of the most popular ice sculptures are the giant ice slides.
