Hai Rui's Tomb

Introduction

Hai Rui’s Tomb is situated in Binya village in the suburbs of Haikou. It was built in 1589 to honor this popular Ming dynasty (1368-1644) statesman who was a native of Hainan. The tomb is made from granite and is set in tropical gardens among statues of people and animals.

Hai Rui (1514-1587) was a statesman during the mid Ming dynasty. He is still revered as an impartial judge, reputed to be an honest and fearless official, who even dared to give controversial advice to the emperor.
