Bright Filial Piety Temple
The Bright Filial Piety Temple is one of the oldest
Buddhist temples in Guangzhou and was founded in the 4th century
AD. Hui Neng, the founder of Zen (Chan) Buddhism is believed to
have been a novice monk here in the late 7th century. Most of the
current buildings date from the early 19th century. However, the
2 iron pagodas, Xitie Ta and Dongtie Ta date back to the 10th century
and are among the oldest in China.
