Jiaoshan stands in the middle of the Yangzi River,
5km (3 miles) northeast of Zhenjiang. To reach this island you need
to take a 30 minute ferry ride.
Covered with greenery, this lush island has been
likened to a piece of floating jade on the river. The Monastery
of Stability and Wisdom (dinghui si) which dates back 1,000
years is on the island. There is also the famous Forest of Tablets
(beilin) which include over 400 stone tablets inscribed in
the handwriting of some of the best known calligraphers in China
dating from the 7th century to the present.
