Dule Temple is located 113km (70 miles) from Tianjin
City. The temple was built over 1,000 years ago and has a central
pavilion dedicated to Guanyin, Goddess of Mercy. The pavilion’s
16 meter (52ft) high clay statue of Guanyin dates back to the Liao
dynasty (916-1125).
The structure of the pavilion is noted for the 24 different systems of brackets inserted between the top of its columns and crossbeams. The temple is one of the oldest wooden buildings in China and has withstood 28 major earthquakes.
