Trip Grade: Challenging

If you're up for adventure and not afraid to try something new, the search stops here. China Straight Up has a fast-paced itinerary combining all the highlights with some of the countries main attractions. And there's more adventure than you could poke a chopstick at! We'll be checking out the incredible rice terraces of Longji, peddling through the limestone karst scenery of Guangxi province, hiking in the remote and spectacular Lushan National Park and spending a night at the Great Wall. If you want to really travel free of constraints and avoid the well worn path of city-hopping travel in China, then get into action and come and experience the China most travelers miss out on.

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Hong Kong
Hip and happening are two words to describe Hong Kong, Asia's liveliest city. Feel free to hit the streets while you wait for the adventure to start...

Day 2 Overnight train
This is our first taste of grass roots adventure - Chinese style. If meeting and mingling is right up your street then you'll love the overnight sleeper train to Guilin.

Day 3-6 Guangxi by bike
We
'll trek through the lush green terraces before landing in a Zhuang minority village.

Day 7-8 Longji Rice Terraces
From footprints to pedal power, it's time to feel the wind in your hair and explore the Guangxi countryside by bike! In the evening of Day 7 we board an overnight train to Nanchang.

Day 9-11 Lushan National Park
Lushan is adventure tailor-made with steep treks or easygoing day walks to choose from.

Day 12 Overnight train
We head back to Nanchang and board the overnight sleeper to Xian on which we'll relax in relative comfort.

Day 13-15 Xian - the Imperial City
We'll explore the exotic food stalls, bustling Muslim quarter and majestic city walls. You can also visit the famous Terracotta Warriors. Then it's on to the overnight sleeper train bound for Beijing on the evening of Day 15.

Day 16-17 Beijing
Whatever you imagine Beijing to be, with the imposing Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, the reality is so much better. We take an alternative look at the back street as well as catching all the imperial splendor.

Day 18 The Great Wall - overnight
Few people get to camp on the slopes below or in one of the watch towers of the Great Wall. If you're up for a bit of fun under canvas, you'll have the place pretty much to yourself.

Day 19-20 Beijing
Millions of Chinese can't be wrong so hire a bike and cycle the streets of Beijing - the great way to travel in one of the world's great cities. Feel free to depart any time on Day 20.
