Trip Grade: Easy

This compact trip offers you a sample of China's most popular attractions, within 9 days. While we'd all love to have weeks if not months to fully explore what China has to offer, we understand that often it's not possible. This short trip combines the main highlights of northeast China. We travel from the imperial grandeur of Beijing and Xian to the modern vibrancy of Shanghai in a leisurely nine days.

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Beijing
You can arrive at our joining point hotel at any time today as there are no planned activities.

Day 2-3 Beijing - Great Wall
Our journey commences in the Chinese capital, Beijing, which is one of the world's most impressive cities. The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are breathtaking in their scale. We take a day trip to a lesser known section of the Great Wall, one of the wonders of the world. In the evening of Day 3, we board an overnight sleeper train bound for the imperial capital of Xian.

Day 4-5 Xian - Terracotta Warriors
Xian is our base for exploring the Terracotta Warriors, one of the greatest archeological finds of the twentieth century. The thousands of figures all facing east in battle formation, complete with horses and chariots are over 2,000 years old. We will also have time to explore the local Markets and absorb the tranquil atmosphere of the Great Mosque in Xian.

Day 6-7 Hangzhou
In the morning of Day 6 we board a flight heading for Hangzhou. One of the city's main attractions is the West Lake, surrounded by hills and gardens, its banks dotted with temples and pavilions. Hangzhou is also one of China's best known tea growing areas and is home to numerous traditional teahouses. In the evening of Day 7 we travel by train to the metropolis of Shanghai.

Day 8 Shanghai
Shanghai is rediscovering its illustrious past. There is so much to see and do here; from strolling along The Bund flanked by art Deco architecture, visiting the busy Yuyuan Market to exploring the Shanghai Museum (one of the best in the country). We'll also catch a performance by the famous Shanghai acrobats.

Day 9 Depart Shanghai
You may depart at any time today.
