Weather

China's climate is extremely varied so generalizations are hard to draw.

Southern China is subtropical with humid, wet and hot summers. Typhoon season falls between July and September. Winters tend to be humid and mild though January to March can be chilly.

Central China has very hot and humid summers. Chongqing, Wuhan and Nanjing are referred to as China's three "furnaces". Winters can be bitterly cold. Rainfall is plentiful all year round.

Northern China experiences very cold winters and hot, though less humid summers. Wind from the northern deserts makes northern China's winters extremely cold.

The best time to visit China is the spring or fall when the weather is most temperate.
