The Lao She Teahouse is a Beijing establishment
that was originally known as "Da Wan Cha" or Big Bowl Tea, after
the bowls which serve the fragrant tea. The teahouse was renamed
after the popular modern writer Lao She wrote his famous novel 'Teahouse'.
The ambience here is much like the teahouse that Lao She describes
in his book and has the lively pace of old Beijing. In the afternoon
and evenings Peking Opera shows bring life to the venue. Other performances
include Chinese acrobatics, standup comedians, traditional instrumentalists
and storytelling.
Visitors will enjoy the traditional Chinese
décor complete with rosewood chairs and tables and red lanterns.
The famous tea is served in brass teapots and savored in fine porcelain
bowls. The teahouse also serves traditional Beijing style snacks
including pastries, cakes and sweets.
A restaurant also adjoins the teahouse and
is named "Da Wan Cha" after the original establishment.
