Biking in Beijing

Biking in Beijing may seem like sheer madness the first time you see the hordes of bikes pausing at junctions, but the view from the saddle is an unbeatable Beijing experience. An easy route for those of us who aren't world class triathletes would be to start at Taoranting Park and peddle your way up to Tiananmen Square. Nearby attractions that you can also visit include the Great Hall of the People, Chairman Maos Memorial Hall and the Forbidden City. A wonderful way to end your day would be to continue cycling on to Beihai Park. There you can either exercise your arms with some rowing, or reward yourself with a nice cold beer at the nearby café overlooking Beihai Lake.

Beijing has excellent restaurants serving food from around the world and China. Northern Chinese cooking is at its best here and Peking Duck is the city's most famous dish. chinaetravel.com recommends 3 restaurants known for their fine food, classic interiors and sense of tradition.

The Beijing Qianmen Quan Jude Roast Duck Restaurant is perhaps the most famous restaurant for Peking Duck with a history of over 100 years. Lao She Teahouse brings you the spirit of old Beijing-watch Peking Opera on its home stage while you sip your tea. Finally Tangenyuan, set in a beautiful courtyard complex complete with red lanterns serves traditional Beijing delicacies.
