National Flag

Following the establishment of the PRC in 1949, a new flag was required to symbolize the New China. A competition was held and a design by Shanghai businessman Zeng Liansong was chosen from over 2,000 entries.

The National Flag of the People's Republic of China has a red background and five yellow stars in the left corner. The red symbolizes China's revolution and the stars represent the unity of the people under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party.
