Introduction

Much of the recent developments and modernization in Kunming were in preparation for the major horticulture exhibition held here in 1999. This was no small town flower show. The site is a massive 218 hectares and is being maintained as a permanent exhibition. 5 separate exhibition halls plus numerous gardens built in the style of all China’s provinces, or using the gardening styles of ancient dynasties all demonstrate that horticulture is an important science as well as an art.
