Forest of Steles
The Forest of Steles is a library of engraved slabs of stone known as steles. This is the largest stone library in China and is part of the collections at the Shaanxi Museum. It was built at the former Confucius Temple at Sanxue Jie in Xian in 1090 to preserve ‘The Kaicheng Stone Classics’ and ‘The Stone Base Classics of Filial Piety’. These classic steles were engraved during the Tang dynasty (618-907).
