Five Ministers Memorial Tower
Located at the south end of Haifu Road in Haikou,
this tower was built in 1889 to honor 5 famous ministers of the
Tang and Song dynasties who were exiled to Hainan. Li Deyu of the
Tang dynasty (618-907AD) and Li Gang, Hu Quan, Zhou Ding and Li
Guang of the Song dynasty (960-1271) were all banished from the
imperial court to the southern most part of China.
The tower houses statues and memorial tablets for each of the 5 ministers. The Memorial Tower’s grounds are well maintained and attractive. Paths paved with pebbles and lined with ancient trees, lead through halls and pavilions.
