There is a popular Chinese saying that the mountains
and waters of Guilin are the best under heaven. As you boat down
the 83km (50 miles) of river from Guilin to Yangshuo, you realize
the saying is no exaggeration. From the crystal clear Li River you
can enjoy the charm of the passing landscape - the lush green mountains,
farmlands, sleepy villages and of course the picturesque karst formations
unique to the area.
The river itself also holds many of nature’s wonders
with spectacular deep pools of water, murmuring springs and waterfalls.
Narrow bamboo rafts carrying cormorant fishermen dot the river bringing
a timeless quality to the tour. Travelers enjoy the vivid colors
that range the whole spectrum of green and blue and it is no surprise
that the Li River has long been the inspiration of many artists.
