Ceramics have been produced in Shiwan since the Tang dynasty (618-907AD). The pottery and porcelain produced at the Shiwan Artistic Ceramic Factory include human figures, animals, miniature landscapes, household and garden decorations. No glaze is applied to the face of human figures, which is a distinctive feature of Shiwan figurines. Many Shiwan figures are used as decoration on temples.
